2008 Local Winner—Residential Lighting, Interior
The “Residential Lighting” category was a new addition to the 2008 National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) awards program.

The main issue we addressed in this project was a result of improperly positioned recessed lighting. The existing fixtures not only created a harsh glare throughout the room, but made it nearly impossible for the homeowners to use their new plasma television because of the screen reflections.

To correct the situation, we created a lighting plan that provided softer general illumination while accentuating the features of the room. We installed smaller lights with special reflector trims to eliminate the glare and reduce the protrusion of the fixtures themselves, and added accent lighting to enhance the built-in shelves, wall artwork and bar area.
We also installed a single room lighting control system, allowing the homeowners to control the entire room’s lighting scene via single wall switch or media system-linked remote. Thanks to these improvements, the owners can finally enjoy their favorite entertainment in a relaxed, custom lighted environment
